Pre-appt blood work?
Question:
Well, after some curfuffle over getting blood tests ready for my appt on the 18th May.. I can see that I am generally pleased with most of them.
HBA1c : 9.0%
Cholestrol: 5.1
Sodium has increased to 82.0 from 74.0
And to top it off kidney function has returned to a normal level...
So fingers crossed that my overall appt goes well... need to check for retinopathy as eyes are playing up...
I honestly thought that my A1c would be higher than that, so it proves that taking insulin does work even if you still binge etc

Your doc is going to give you a lecture!

My last one was 11.9 %

As I understand you were
in 2003 and you've never been below 10 until now. When I was diagnosed 2 years ago, mine was 9 and they said I had to get it down as quick as possible. Over the winter I probably ate too many warm comfort foods and mine went back from 6.4 - 6.7. But he wants me under 6 to be in control. You may want to ask him at your appointment about what your goal for good health should be. How are your numbers during the day. A high H1AC may mean you are spiking very high at night and need more insulin.

I honestly thought that my A1c would be higher than that, so it proves that taking insulin does work even if you still binge etc I think you need to sit yourself down and have a little heart to heart in the mirror. You have been a diabetic since 2003. By this time, you know the lay of the land. Keep your blood sugar controlled or you suffer consequences. Yes. A HbA1c of 9% is better than above 10%. I don't think it really matters what your doctor thinks. What do you think? I know if it were me, 9% is not good enough. Don't maintain levels which may cause you to suffer complications. Please devote yourself to getting that HbA1c down. I think you deserve better. I know you deserve better.

BSC, I am not sure of your situation... I have an ED; and have had that talk in the mirror many times.. then it causes me to binge.. I know all the D and complications stuff.. I have been in the medical field and seen the complications...
My doc wanted to take it slow so I didnt panic or relapse into depression... I just dont know anyone else that is diabetic locally that I can speak to..
I want to have the "perfect" control and A1C that everyone seems to preach, but its not that easy....

I want to have the "perfect" control and A1C that everyone seems to preach, but its not that easy.... I'm sorry if my comments were not helpful. My heart goes out to you. I would just like you to know that I am concerned about you and hope that you can continue to make progress. Keep at it, these things will come. I hope you will stay and talk about this stuff. Remember, none of us are ever "perfect." Just ask my wife.

I think a lot of us have diabetes denial when we are first diagnosed. I couldn't believe this could happen to me. I had already lost a lot of weight and worked out like crazy. I'm very educated with a masters degree and I thought I was eating healthy all those years. When diabetes hit me, I got a new kind of education that they don't teach at the university. I read as many books and articles I could find to find out what was going on in my diabetic body. My doctor is supportive and tries to answer all my questions when I bring up new studies or drugs. The one thing most doctors in the US agree is that the H1Ac should be somewhere below 6.5 to prevent complications. I don't think there are any arguments about that. Maybe the UK is different. Are you a T 1 or T 2 diabetic? I like this forum because I see what other diabetics have achieved and it helps me in my struggle to get my numbers down.

I hope your sodium wasn't 74, unless you guys use different units than us.
