Blood sugar level keeps rising?

Question:
For about a week I have noticed my sugar levels rising. I have been able to keep them normal for about a month or two after being on amaryl and 1500 mg of metformin. In this weeks time, my eyes have also been burning. I'm worried and won't be going back to the doctor until next week.

When I woke up this morning my bs was 200 so I took my meds and about an hour afterwards, I tested myself again and it's 208. It just seems to be getting higher and higher in the mornings lately and I haven't been eating or doing anything out of the ordinary. Is it possible that I need to take more metformin or maybe start on insulin?

Is it possible for you to call your Doctor's office and speak with him or his nurse? I am Type 2, diagnosed in 2003 and I first started out on oral medicines too. When your blood sugar levels begin to rise, there are a number of reasons why it could happen? Like...are you not feeling well, do you have extra stress in your life at present? I'm not a health care professional, but if I were you, I would call the office and talk with someone about your concerns.

Without knowing what you eat normally we can not give our ideas. What did you have for breakfast this morning and lunch today? What was dinner last night? What time did you get up this morning and what time did you eat?

I have been stressed out lately since my fiance and I are trying to get a house and it has been frustrating, but I usually stress about things anyways.

I woke up around 9 this morning and I didn't eat breakfast either, which I usually don't. If I do, I will usually have a bowl of cereal (Chex) an egg or two, or a fiber granola bar. And I didn't have anything for lunch as of yet. I usually am not very hungry and feel like the food in my stomach sometimes doesn't really go anywhere. Then there are times when I am really hungry and when I eat something, it makes me feel kind of sick to my stomach

Before increasing meds or considering insulin why not try changing your lifestyle? Several issues I see, first breakfast needs to be MANDATORY! an eaten as soon as possible after waking up.

Also no cereal, go with eggs, bacon, sausage or even something as simple as a piece of cheese wrapped around some cold cuts. Try to go as carb free for breakfast at first, after things settle down your meter will let you know how many carbs you can add back. Lunch, 4 hours after breakfast, go for 25-30 grams of carbs along with an equal amount of protein.

If you do not eat your liver will keep adding glucose to your blood, your high numbers are your bodies defense against the stress of life compounded by the physical stress caused by the lack of consistency in the timing of your meals.

One of the side affects of amaryl is blurred vision. Not always for everyone as we all react differently to oral meds. When you see your doctor, tell him of the burning eyes, it could be caused by something independent of your diabetes or meds.

With this upcoming appt. the doctor will in all likelyhood adjust your dosages, however that's going to be a hard call since your are causing some of your high bs readings by your stress and as you stated, your infrequent eating of breakfast. Not eating breakfast & a high post fasting number, your inviting a liver dump of glucose. You also need to take a good hard look at your evening meal (when & what you consumed ) and did you have something to eat prior to going to bed.

When you wrote of what you eat, when you do eat breakfast, I say "WOW" ! More like a normal non-diabetic breakfast. Are you relying on your meds to do the work? The meds are only to assist you in gaining control of your diabetes numbers. 90% of diabetes control is dietary (change & habits) plus some type of exercise. You cannot live & eat the same way you used to.

You may have some foods which will raise your blood sugar. For instance, I found out that I can't eat most cold cereals with milk -- too much carb with both, I guess. So I have oatmeal without a lot of sugar and that seems to be ok.
